We found out today that our court date to finalize Wyatt's adoption will be Wednesday November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving. We meet our lawyer at the court house, sign some papers, take some pictures and bada bing, bada boom- he's ours! We are very excited to get the official paperwork so we can get a birth certificate and social security number, put him on our health insurance and just in time to get the tax benefits too (so sue me, I'm an accountant). I think it is a little more exciting to Michael to have everything official. He has been more worried than me during this part of the process. I did the worrying about when we would get a baby and then it was his turn...it's only fair! I guess it will be a relief to know for absolute certain that no one can ever take him away from us, but to be honest he's been mine since the day I laid eyes on him and no piece of paper is going to make that feel more true.
Wyatt has also said what we (and by that I mean me) are calling his first official words..."mom mom mom mom". Michael had him upstairs and brought him down to the kitchen the other day and when Wyatt saw me he smiled and said "mom mom mom mom". He also says "da da da da" all day long, but doesn't seem to connect that with Michael. Ok I guess we should call it a tie. He also calls Jack "gah" which I thought was nothing but then I read in one of my baby books that babies often use "gah" as one of their first words for dogs. So obviously that means Wyatt is a genius!
He's doing really well with the walking too. He'll take about one and half good steps before diving forward toward one of us. His favorite game is "pass the baby" so now Michael and I sit on the floor and let him practice walking between the two of us. We'll have company this weekend as Javi and Carol are coming to visit so we will try to get them to videotape our new game.
We also saw the ophthalmologist again yesterday for a follow-up after what will forever be referred to as the "pumpkin incident". He said that everything looks great and no need to see him again until he's old enough for a routine vision exam.

Yea for Wyatt, Nicole and Mike----
This calls for a big time celebration to confirm that on Nov. 26 Wyatt will be yours. Like you said you have loved him from the moment you laid eyes on him. This will be a very 'Thanksgiving Day' for the special gift of "Wyatt Maxwell". Nice to hear about the eye appt. You have to be careful at those 'pumpkin patches'. Love, Mimi & Pop
We are so excited, and sorry we won't be here to celebrate it with you. We look forward to watching an exciting match of Pass-The-Baby.
